Stein Club honors local officials

Several candidates running in the city’s Sept. 9 Democratic primary were expected to join members and supporters of the Gertrude Stein Democratic Club Wednesday night when the club was scheduled to hold its 32nd Anniversary and Leadership Awards reception in Dupont Circle.

City Council member Phil Mendelson (D-At-Large), D.C. Department of Parks and Recreation Director Clark Ray and Washington Blade publisher Lynne Brown were among the individuals slated to receive awards by the Stein Club for their accomplishments on behalf of the local gay community and the city as a whole, according to a club announcement.

The club also named the Equality Caucus of the U.S. House of Representatives as the recipient of its annual Richard Rausch Equality Award, which was also set to be issued at the reception.
