I really wish writers, especially gay writers, would stop using the phrase, "_____________ who is raising two kids with his partner", when describing the same-sex parents of children. ESPECIALLY when they are the MARRIED same-sex parents of children. It makes them sound like friends who are babysitters or guardians rather than married and parents. If you don't think so just think about someone saying about a married mother and father of a child, "Jane, who is raising two kids with her partner Joe". NO ONE says that. How about presenting them, their relationship with each other (married husbands) and their relationship with THEIR CHILDREN the same respect that would be shown a straight married couple and their children. If we want to be seen to be equal then we have to at least show that WE believe that our relationships and our families are equal to those of straight people.

How about captioning the photo like this:

Steve Pougnet (right), pictured with his husband and their two children, has won the endorsement of the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund in his bid for Congress. (Photo courtesy Pougnet)
