What a completely useless interview.

"Challenges in the Senate?" The US Senate is split 50/50 and HRC has never been able to change a Senators vote with their lobbying. Without the Senate it doesn't matter what Joe says, the White House says or David says.

To profess confidence in the repeal of DADT simply because "HRC has been working on it for months" doesn't change the reality in the US Senate.

HRC, like many others, is proclaiming a "political solution" to LGBT Equality and continues to suck resources from our community and send sincere volunteers down ineffective paths. They are asking everyone to run this "race to repeal DADT" knowing there is a firing squad at the Finish Line (the US Senate). That is beyond stupid, they know they are lying and it just hurts our movement. This explains why only 10% of our community gives or participates - they've worked hard only to be gunned down by political realities.

I would have preferred HRC's Mr. Smith simply told the truth.

I don't know about David Smith & HRC's expectations. The Dems are too focused on healthcare and have been for a year now. The Republicans have been in our way from the start and almost certainly will continue to obstruct progress in LGBT Rights. At this point the Domestic Partnership Benefits & Obligations Act seems to be the closest to passage, as it has already advanced out of committees in the House and Senate and is just waiting for a vote on the floor of each chamber. I also expect the House to take action on a few of the other LGBT bills, but I have my doubts about the Senate. I'm not counting on them to pass ENDA or to Repeal Don't Ask Don't Tell.

David Smith sounds like a typical politician -- he spouts lots of platitudes without actually saying anything. After reading this article, I still have no idea HOW the HRC is going to accomplish getting the votes for anything. It was nothing but "we're working on it." Typical HRC crap.
