A rally and protest against ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ were held in downtown D.C. on Thursday. The rally at Freedom Plaza was coordinated by the Human Rights Campaign and featured comedian Kathy Griffin, among other speakers. A protest march continued from the plaza to the White House.

U.S. Army Lt. Dan Choi and Jim Pietrangelo, a former Army captain who was discharged in 2004 for being gay, were arrested after the two handcuffed themselves to the White House fence.

Team DC, the umbrella organization for LGBTQ-friendly sports teams and leagues in the D.C. area, held its annual Night of Champions Awards Gala on Saturday, April 20 at the Hilton National Mall. The organization gave out scholarships to area LGBTQ student athletes as well as awards to the Different Drummers, Kelly Laczko of Duplex Diner, Stacy Smith of the Edmund Burke School, Bryan Frank of Triout, JC Adams of DCG Basketball and the DC Gay Flag Football League.
