Ward 5 was one of the DC's toughest "swing" wards for Marriage Equality just months ago.

I'm glad Republican Timothy Day has publicly declared his position on Marriage Equality for this campaign, now-- *AFTER* the matter has been decided.

Fact is, Democratic Councilmember Harry Thomas Jr. was publicly on record in *FAVOR* of Marriage Equality *4 YEARS* ago in 2006 (GLAA Survey, Stein Dems endorsement). Last year, before casting his votes in favor, CM Thomas spoke movingly on behalf of his Ward 5 LGBT residents, while persuading many in Ward 5 previously opposed to trust his judgment on the issue. That's proven, courageous leadership.

Also, it does not inspire confidence that the DC Republican Ward 5 Chair, Kris Hammond, has publicly doubted whether racist and homophobic epithets were really shouted at Reps. John Lewis, Andre Carson and Barney Frank last Saturday (3/20), and that Hammond is quoting ultra-conservative Ken Blackwell (*Homosexuality Is A Compulsion*, FRC, Liberty U., 2004 Ohio Presidential election irregularities) in defense of the Tea Party's, "few who make comments that they should reconsider." Reconsider, indeed.

Whatever their party affiliations, Ward 5 LGBT residents have a great, proven friend in CM Harry Thomas, Jr.

[...] D.C. Agenda has the details on Marc Morgan and Timothy Day, each challenging incumbents for ward Council seats.
