I have enormous respect for Mike Almy & all the good his coming forward is doing. But I fear he's paying more attention to the pre-announcement hype than the reality of the minor changes themselves unless there's some reason to believe the person who reported Almy's revealing e-mails to his commander would not have spoken about them under oath. As Pentagon General Counsel Jeh Johnson said, the bottomline remains: "If there is compelling evidence that a person has engaged in homosexual conduct, I would not expect that these new regs would make a difference." Bravo to Mr. Sarvis for speaking the basic truth while many in our community are dreaming about Secty Gates marching in the next Pride Parade arm-in-arm with Dan Choi & Victor Fehrenbach. REPEAT: third-party outings have NOT been banned and gay servicemembers still CANNOT serve openly under DADT!

If it's just a temporary stopgap until Congress repeals the abomination of DADT, fine. We still have to hold the feet of Congress to the fire. Those who won't vote with us won't get our votes. Democrats are going to have to understand that a homophobic Democrat is no better than a homophobic Repugnican.
