This issue has been studied since at least the 1950s, and updated regularly in reports like the RAND study. There needs to be leadership, not more study and equivocation. The Palm Center has told the administration one of the most critical aspects of implementation is CLEAR, QUICK and CONSISTENT messages from the top of military hierarchy.

It seems like BO blew this advice to hell....deliberately?

Every week I become more disenchanged with Obama. We were promised so much and supported him with such fervor, only once again to be left at the altar. If nothing is done before November, we will have lost all hope for obtaining our rights, because the country is moving more and more toward destruction of liberalism. I'm disgusted with all politicians and see no point in giving any more money to any of them. I'll just save my money and move to Canada.

Get over the fact that he is black, it means nothing. Obama uses it to strategic advantage. Just from the crass perspective of a politician, Obama has been brilliant. Throughout the campaign, he made tremendous promises to our community (similar to Clinton's "I feel your pain"). Then immediately after the election, he starts to signal a strategic move away from us. Remember the role that Rev. Rick Warren played in the Inauguration Ceremony, which he defended as an appeal to “diversity?” After which he throws us a bone by inviting Rev. Gene Robinson to pray at the beginning of the concert on the Mall prior to the inauguration, which conveniently was edited out in the televised version by HBO. Then he makes some hires of immanently qualified gay and lesbian folks into the administration – no risk here since a corporation would grab them up. What follows are two critical things: he speaks at the HRC Dinner and signs the Hate Crimes legislation (which he had nothing to do with its passage). His Justice Department makes a horrible argument in favor of discrimination in the California fight. Now, he is manifesting his opposition to DADT. Anyone who thinks that Gates is operating on his own, of course, is crazy. I almost would rather have had McCain – at least we would know where we are with him and organize accordingly. But you got to give it to BO – brilliant strategy, horrific leadership. And the insult to injury is that Democrats know that we have no option in the Republican Party because we don’t! Had enough?
