Mya to headline Capital Pride

R&B singer and award-winning actress Mya, who hails from the Washington, D.C. area, will headline this year’s Capital Pride celebration, the Blade has learned. An official announcement is expected soon.

Mya won her first Grammy for the No. 1 hit song “Lady Marmalade,” a collaboration with Pink, Christina Aguilera and Lil’ Kim in 2001. She won a Screen Actors Guild award for her role in the film “Chicago” and more recently was the runner up on the hit TV show “Dancing With the Stars” in 2009.

Capital Pride draws 200,000 visitors annually. This year’s festival is set for Sunday, June 13. For more information visit

What’s wrong with a local performer? It is the local Pride. Pride takes a lot of money to produce. If you want someone bigger, donate money at the entrance of the festival where they have the donation cans.
