While I don’t have the time (or the inclination) to go through the posts for every article on Washingtonpost.com, here are three comments regarding slavery:

Bill, my heart goes out to the family of Brian Betts. And to answer your questions, I have followed the comments at Washingtonpost.com. However, I have not seen repeated arguments relating this case to slavery. Instead, I read many arguments relating this case to poor parental guidance, poor family structure/lack of father, and poor management at DCYRS.

Regardless, your comments were irresponsible and appear to be blanket statements that could apply to multiple cases and occurrences. “Again and again and again, it’s black youth committed egregious crimes with the moral compass of barn yard animals. But what the f-ck, blame it on slavery.” Yeah, that pretty much sums you up. Again, what black man hurt or flat-out rejected you?

Apparently, Bill, Mr.Betts must like to deal with “barn yard animals” other wise he wouldn’t be on the chatline in the washington d.c. area….trying to show his face and get into something with these “barn yard animals”. Does this excuse their actions, no, but Mr.Betts put HIMSELF in that situation. I dont think slavery, being black, or being young as anything to do with this, SIR. Slavery didnt dial up the chatline and pass the phone to Mr.Betts. Blame it on slavery???…no blame it on a guy who got on the chatline and met the wrong person. Again and again and again, some obvious racist white guy is on the internet expressing his misguided thoughts because in this day and age that is the only place “racism” can be expressed. And if you are gay bill then you should be ashamed of your comments, trust me this country hates you just as much if not more for being gay, as they do black people. And quite frankly if you have a problem with black people and you live in or around D.C. then move. Find a place among white people that hate black people but dont mind gays….good luck.

@Jack and sweetfunkystuff – Have you two been following the comments on the Betts-related articles on the Washington Post including repeated arguments that the murder of this wonderful person was a result of slavery? Do you at all understand the ongoing consequences of a horrible juvenile system? Do you care?

I adamantly disagree with the priorities of DYRS. I believe its first responsibility must be to safeguard society from the danger and harm posed by these young criminals. It has failed egregiously to achieve that end, and a very decent man paid with his life. The “rehabilitation” of these criminals must be a secondary concern. We now have three adults who have a long history of escalating criminal behavior ending with capital murder. They were given many “chances” since they were juveniles. Now, they need to pay the price for committing a premeditated adult murder. They need to be put to death.

I can’t believe no one’s called you on this blatant “blame the victim” comment… When we’re assaulted, we are rightly a victim, when a man is assaulted and murdered, he’s “stupid” and brought this upon himself as “the result of bad decision making”…? Wow…. I’m hearing echoes of the old rationalizations of “she shouldn’t have been alone in that area at night” and “what did she expect, dressing like that…”

Here my thoughts. Try the little mother f–kers as adults and sentence them to death. The alterations that they need from their “abusive childhood” is 20,000 volts of electricity searing through their bodies. Oh, and yes, I hope it hurts like hell!
