Blade wins two journalism awards
The Washington Blade won two 2010 Dateline Awards for Excellence in Local Journalism from the D.C. chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.
Senior news reporter Lou Chibbaro Jr. won third place in the spot news category for “Miscarriage of justice,” an article about a defendant charged with misdemeanor assault in the death of a gay man.
Editor Kevin Naff won second place in the editorials, columns and commentary category for “Gansler’s predictable betrayal,” an editorial about Maryland Attorney General Doug Gansler’s delayed opinion on recognizing legal same-sex marriages from other jurisdictions. Naff took first place in the same category in 2007, 2008 and 2009.
“These latest honors point to our ongoing, 40-year commitment to quality journalism,” said Blade publisher Lynne Brown. “Both of these stories were important to our local readers and no other news outlet is covering local LGBT issues with the depth and professionalism of the Blade.”
