I strongly recommend that everyone vote for Phil Mendelson. He is a long-time, proven supporter and champion of gay rights and gay issues. The fact that he is not gay is irrelevant. He gets it, he gets us and is solid ally. Voting for Brown is simply uninformed and voting for Clark doesn't change anything. If we assume that Clark is to be as solid as Phil has been, how does that improve anything? Phil is our champion and I hope folks realize the strength, value and leadership he continues to have. Vote for Phil Mendelson and keep us on track.

My biggest worry about a Mendelson loss to Michael Brown is what effect it would have of DC's chances of getting representation in Congress. Not only would we loose the services of a terrific Councilmember, I think it would set back the fight for representation in Congress by ten years or more. DC voters would become the subject of late night comedians (Marion Barry is still the punchline of jokes) and this would be used as a justification on why DC voters are should not be given equal representation.
