D.C.’s Labor party
It’s Labor Day weekend and there are all kinds of events and parties happening.
Glen Echo Park has its 40th annual Labor Day Art Show’s opening reception tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Spanish Ballroom. The show will remain open through Monday.
The National Symphony Orchestra will have its annual Labor Day Concert at the U.S. Capitol at 8 p.m. This is a free concert and does not require a ticket.
ZOOM Urban Lesbian Excursions is doing its second annual Labor Day Sunset Sail on the American Spirit at the Gangplank Marina. The trip is three hours long on the Potomac and includes drinks, food and music. Tickets for the sail cost $55 and can be purchased at phatgirlchic.com/zoom.
The Fab Lounge is hosting a party featuring DJs Andrew Hodans, 1 Smooth DJ Mary, Ernest Fountain, Derrick “D-Train” Coleman and Laurent Minassian. There won’t be a cover and the party starts at 7 p.m.
Herndon has its Labor Day Jazz and Wine Festival on Monday from noon to 6 p.m. at the Town Green, 777 Lynn St., with wine tastings and music from regional and national jazz performers.
In Rehoboth Beach, Del., there are a couple different events happening.
The biggest event in Rehoboth is Sundance, a two-night annual benefit for CAMP Rehoboth Community Center.
Saturday is the first night and features both a silent and live auction. The doors of the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center open at 7 p.m. and the bidding starts right away. There will be an open bar and a cocktail buffet during this time.
The live auction starts at 9:10 p.m. with the greater items going up for bid at this time. Some of the items in the live auction include an outdoor kitchen; a 40” 3D TV; a hot tub, and a fully restored 1967 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow.
The second night of Sundance is a “massive dance party” according the CAMP Rehoboth’s Sundance Update, featuring music by DJ Mark Thomas, an open bar all night, and a light show by Paul Turner.
Tickets for one night are $45 each and for both nights they are $80. They are available for purchase online at camprehoboth.com or by calling 302-227-5620.
Another Rehoboth Beach party is being organized by LADIES 2000 and City Girl Productions at the Atlantic Sands Hotel in the Swan Ballroom.
According to Ladies 2000 website, this will be the largest women’s party to hit the beach. Doors open at 5 p.m. There will be $2.00 cocktails for the first hour and DJ Steve Sing will be spinning.
Olde Towne Gaithersburg has its annual Labor Day Parade on Monday at 1 p.m. Greenbelt has their Labor Day Festival starting today at the Greenbelt Community Center, 15 Crescent Rd., with rides, games, a petting zoo, art exhibits, athletic tournaments and live entertainment.
