Maybe people seem to be reading less because of the workload, and the long commute and having only two days to off to accomplish tasks that must be done...however Im sure just before bed people are picking up a good book to settle down to...I know I read constantly, its paramount that people continue to read...not only to understand new and exciting elements of the universe around us, but to keep the mind sharp as we humans age...
I believe we're reading less books, but I don't believe we're reading any less than we ever did. How much have you read on your computer screen today?

FYI: There is used bookstore exclusively caters to gay men called G BOOKS at 1520 U St, near Results Gym in DC. They buy sell & trade used gay men's books from gay studies to gay literature. Gay men do read, the bookstore is thriving. As a matter of fact, DC, like NY and SF, is one of the best cities to sell books in USA.

"Despite booming sales of the iPad, Kindle and other digital book readers, some see a disturbing trend among gay men: We are reading fewer books today than previous generations."

Yes, that's it exactly: Gay men, and only gay men, are reading fewer books. As evidence, the article cites the closure of gay bookstores. That phenomenon couldn't possibly have anything to do with the increased space given to queer literature in mainstream bookstores. Also, we know that it's completely gay men's fault because lesbian bookstores like Lammas have ... um, never mind.
