This is the #1 reason I've only dated women for the last 4+ years, after years of being totally out and generally dating men. I still live in DuPont, still have tons of gay friends I love and hang out with all the time, but I'm just . . . scared. I know too many people living with HIV, and I know too many people who've gone from negative to positive in the time I've known them. Despite the drug advances and greatly reduced stigma over the years, it's not just a bump in the road when they get the diagnosis; it changes their lives in more ways than they could have imagined. I personally could not handle it. The idea that every 5th guy you go out with or hook up with is positive is scary, but what's scarier is that most of those who are positive with tell you they're negative and believe it - simply because they don't know yet. So get tested, play safe, keep away from the meth, and let's hope there's a cure soon.
