The most correct and accurate definition of the needed legislation is "Bias Intimidation". This includes ibtimidation and bullying which is not necessarily physical. This is a also not specific to LGBT's.

A national "Bias Intimidation Law" is what is needed. This will allow, and require, the FBI to step in when local athorities do not act with due diligence.

Acts of violence against gays has risen dramatically. Laws must be changed to protect victims of crime. Crime victims also must be protected and made to feel safe in reporting crimes. Crimes against gay individuals are among the least reported crimes due to the revictimization a person can go through in the process. It all starts with our leaders who must do more to protect people including gay youth. This is not the time for complacency; rather it is a time to be heard.

The bullies on the offense, here and around the world, are bullying the kids and teens through bullying us, the ADULTS - see it?? So a couple of laws relating to kids and schools is INADEQUATE. They are a small, very small bandaid above many deep cuts that have turned a corner and become an infected abscess… Get it?!

Let's face it: We are ALL being bullied, and it's constant and it's everyday, including the media. We adults have just learned to live with it, to compartmentalize it into a place where we tell ourselves "it's THEIR loss… they just need to learn more about me… they're just ignorant…" But EVERY single person, especially leaders, who place an LGBT person in a different or separate category about ANYTHING, is bullying us, old and young. And children and teens see everything - EVERYTHING - because they are always watching us, the "grown-ups" if we can call us that. They don't miss anything, and they are watching us now: what are "the grown-ups" going to do about this new plight. Because obviously the kids just can't take it anymore…

Either we pass laws against hate-speech, like they have in Europe, or else people will continue throwing their own hate speech back at the bullies. A bit cute at first, but it ain't very pretty. Yes, the kids are watching (well, even participating)
