I was lucky to have Mary as my Intro to Sociology Professor while I was student at Lehigh. She was a fantastic professor and I’m sure she will be equally adept as a state legislator. Congrats Dr. Washington!

Ironically, it has been a few homophobic Democratic members of some key committees in the Maryland General Assembly that have held back marriage equality. From what I understand, one or more of these homophobes lost in the last election as more LGBT members were being elected, so perhaps Delegate-Elect Washington is correct in her predicition that we will have same-sex marriage in Maryland within 4 years.

MY driving up to where her office was – kind of a trek for me – was worthwhile. I did a lot of phone banking for Mary, and contributed financially to her campaign.

Big question and comment – are you doing your part? This country has at least 20 million , and more likely 30 million gay people. if everyone gave $5/month, in 2012 we’d have 2.5 to 3 BILLION DOLLARS. to do what we did with eg state senator and chief homophobe Mooney. And with that kind of money I’d buy you prob 300-to- 400 pro equality elected officials.

Sorry to say — the homophobes are only part of the problem. The other half is the frightened , discouraged, and simply not getting involved gay people in this country. Haven’t you already had enough of the churches of hate and their people in the Govt ? Get mad, get active
