Wow this article lacks any sort of depth whatsoever.

"many of us still encounter many forms of homophobia from hate crimes to same-sex marriage bans to employment discrimination to anti-gay “jokes.” As a result of this prejudice, queer artists, like other queers, historically have been outsiders."

Do you honestly think that if there were no same sex marriage bans queers would be "insiders"? I can guarantee that none of those artists would give a shit about marriage.

The fact that queers are outsiders is something that we will never overcome as long as civilization as we know it is still intact. Its embarrassing that the author of this article would identify as queer. She obviously doesnt understand the first thing about what it means to be queer, or what these artists were expressing in their work.

This exhibit does not deserve the kind of praise its given in this article. Its been "straight-washed" and stripped of the radical nature of the artists' more important pieces.

Washington blade, can you please stop being so assimilationist and anti-queer. It makes me sad that you get to speak on behalf of my community.
