Thanks for a thoughtful and positive commentary, Allen. While I regret the tone of some of the comments posted in response, your own words demonstrate a measure of charity that members of the Catholic hierarchy have often failed to have in dealing with or speaking about God's LGBTQ children. In this season of Advent and Christmas -- a time when Christians celebrate the fundamental belief that God is actively present in and at work in our world -- I pray that others may join in the hope you express. Thank you!

I'm sorry - this church has been for much of its existance an absolutist organization behind all kinds of horror.

That includes the hatred of the Jews which hitler - a stil not excommunciated catholic leveraged to gain election in 1933

Aa pope who in 2009 UNexcommunicated Bishop williamson, who is a holocaust denier.

A church which demonizes gay people, calling them in effect crazy (intrinsically disordered, and says that trans people will mean the end of human race.

The church which supported the fascist dictator Franco during the 1936-1939 spanish civil war etc etc etc

They say you can take the catholic out of the church but you cant take the church out of the catholic.. Sir, you need to figure out the solution to this problem . BTW one of my very progessive neighbors, a catholic commented that when RATzigner was named pope she cried, and it wasn't tears of joy.

Unless you plan on living for another 1000 years, you should stop wasting your hope on the church reforming. The church is all about faith, and they will never change anythign significant. Because once the faith is shown to be question the whole rotten thing will collapse.

YOu might take a visit to the local Episcopal church, most of whom accept gay people as equals, and even perform marriage like ceremonies for gay people.

PS I am Jewish, str8, married 43 years, yet I left my liberal reform Jewish church because they have not made equality for gay people their priority. IMHO if they aren't part of the solution, they are part of thet problem.
