Has HRC actually had a legislative or other success? Ever?

The National Center for Lesbian Rights, Log Cabin Republicans, libertarian Republicans like Ted Olson, and libertarian (heterosexual)s like Roger Pilon of the CATO Institute can be found suing or writing amicus briefs to decriminalize same sex activity, overturn DADT, overturn gay marriage bans, and legalize adoption.

But does HRC do anything other than throw dinners, buy buildings, hold cocktail parties, and issue press releases?

HRC is a glory chasing organization that should be at the forefront of the L.G.B.T. people's cause. Instead I see Joe and co. playing catch up when they know they can grab some glory for the battles that the many of us have fought. HRC wasn't the primary force in passing the repeal of D.A.D.T. It was those of us that badgered our Senators and Congressmen/women with our emails, letters and phone calls. We the L.G.B.T. voting citizens of the United States that made our voices heard loud and clear in the halls of Congress that we've had enough. We were the driving force behind the repeal of D.A.D.T. Not the President, not Joe Solomonese, not Joe Lieberman or Susan Collins, not Secretary Gates but the sick and tired oppressed lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered. We collectively fought and won this battle. We all deserve due credit where and when it is deserved.

Sirs:

I am getting more aggravated by the "it gets better" crusade. First, I am upset that so many 'celebrities' are jumping on the bandwagon because of self-benfit of their celbrity reputation. Secondly, I am concerned that there is a an inate falsehood in the program. In my personal experience of being bullied as well as physically and sexuallly abused since early childhood, I do not believe that "it gets better' is a universally valid program. I have survived io AARP status by develping a thick skin because it has really not gotten better for me. I do not venture into places where I can get attacked whenever possible (I have been verbally attacked in two of my local grocery stores in the last year.) I continue to be verbally attacked by one of my brothers after a 50 plus history of such activity (he not longer physically or sexually abuses me). It really has not gotten much better for me.

I hope that the hope of "it gets better' is a positive message for most of my bothers and sisters. Unfortunately, I have only survived because of a positive psychiatrist and an assortment of drugs, both prescribed and obtained through other sources. Elsewise, I have resorted to being a hermit left to the comfort of my cat and cable TV.

I hope that "it gets better" for everyone else. My life has been a repudiation of this hopeful message.

Seasons greetings...
