Why would you cheapen this by providing a forum for someone on the level of John Aravosis to bloviate? Pulleeze, if you need quotes find someone credible not just convenient.

I think his sexual orientation is relevant. DADT was just repealed after years of conservatives coming up with reasons LGBT people aren’t fit to openly serve in the military. Most states still haven’t passed marriage equality. Most states allow people to be fired for being LGBT. Danny saved Giffords’s life and possibly risked his own life in the process. Our society needs LGBT role models, especially for young people who are still contending with bullying and discrimination. I am glad Danny is being recognized as a hero who is gay. Perhaps this will cause some people to rethink their stereotypes about gay people; perhaps this will help somebody who is struggling with being LGBT by giving them hope or inspiration.

I agree, it does not matter what Danny’s sexual orientation is. He saved Gabby’s life, I would say he is a hero. Really, please stop worrying about about peoples’ sexual orientation, start to focus on what is important. His personal life is his own business.

Really? Is this young man’s sexuality the focus of this article? No. He did an amazing thing and that’s where the focus needs to remain. Labels can be dangerous and it is ill-advised that you inserted one here. I wouldn’t be surprised if some inflamatory comments get posted bashing his sexuality.

I am wondering why Hernandez’s sexual orientation needs to be discussed in this article? Do you report that a heterosexual man saved the day? Just seems strange in 2011 that a newspaper would focus on such an unimportant fact.
