Most states have protections already. DOMA is a federal law written to specifically discriminate against gays and is actually cited by companies as a reason to allow discrimination. You have to pull out the lawful discrimination as a step to equality. What you are suggestion would be like telling minorities that voting rights aren't as important as making sure that the restaurants will seat them. They are both important, but one outweighs the other.

Funny, Obama claims that his opinion on Gay Marriage is evolving, well thats interesting, since he told the Windy city Times back in 1996 that he SUPPORTED full marriage rights for gays.

And for all of the people saying that OBama can't move on gay rights now, well just remember, the Democrats hemmed and Hawed before on all the progressive issues like public option, GITMO, gay rights, and the base stayed home AND they lost support amoung independents. Obama needs to worry much more about what Dem voters think and much less about what Tea Partiers who will never vote for him think.

Gay leaders again are shortsighted and missing the big picture! Obama cannot support same-sex marriage now even if he wanted to. He needs to win a second term first! Once he does, he can feel free to support gay marriage without political repercussions to him! We don't need our enemies using this as ammunition against him in 2012! Think!

I am astonished that the gay leadership sees having Obama endorse marriage equality as a greater priority than having him publically endorse and push for passage of ENDA! ENDA will be politically more easy to get broad support for than eliminating DOMA will be in Congress! Be realistic and clue into the reality!
More people support an end to job discrimination than marriage equality at this time.

Given the harsh economic conditions, Pelosi and Reid should have made ENDA a priority and allowed it to come to a vote while the House was in Democratic control. They failed us and think that giving us an end to DADT makes up for it. Well, no, because most of us don't work for the US military! We don't need sexual orientation as yet on legally acceptable excuse to deny a person a job!

What about ENDA? Who cares about gay marriage if you can't get a job to support yourself and end up homeless? Who is setting the priorities here?
It is obvious that the GLBT movement is controlled by the upper middle class and wealthy people who are more concerned about tax advantages of marriage than their community members being unemployable.
