In 1961, President Kennedy issued executive order 10925 requiring government contractors to "take affirmative action to ensure that applicants are employed, and that employees are treated during employment, without regard to their race, creed, color, or national origin." Kennedy signed that order before Congress passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Why can't Obama sign a similar executive order that covers sexual orientation and gender identity?

Bravo HUD. However, rules can be changed once a new administration is power and if you have a future homophobic HUD chief! You know the right-wing would seek to refuse this law whenever they get power again. We need a permanent Federal law that includes Housing and Public Accommodations along with Employment! If we can take the risk of including transgenders in the legislation why not test the waters with these additional provisions? They can always take them out and limit it to employment later!

We can thank Reid and Pelosi for the fact that ENDA can go nowhere for at least two years! They could introduced the bills for a vote but refused! I will NEVER forget that! They think getting DADT passed makes up for it but it doens't. Ending the ban on gays in the military only helps a fraction of the community. Most of us don't work in the US military!
