He will never please same-sex marriage opponents by riding the fence, because they will always think he is too supportive of LGBT rights and his refusal to support same-sex marriage is upsetting his liberal base and LGBT supporters in particular. He just finish this silly evolution on the issue and come out in support of same-sex marriage, because this silly position is just getting both sides angry with him.
