Courage Campaign: Senator Tom Udall will vote to repeal DOMA
The California-based LGBT advocacy group, Courage Campaign, announced yesterday Democratic Senator Tom Udall of New Mexico would join 23 other co-sponsors of the Respect for Marriage Act, which would repeal the Defense of Marriage Act. The organization also shared a video the Senator released.

The Defense of Marriage Act or DOMA prevents the Federal government from recognizing the legal marriages and unions of same-sex couples for tax and inheritance purposes, in terms of benefits and in other areas. There are a multitude of Federal court challenges being mounted against DOMA and earlier this year President Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder revealed the Justice Department would no longer defend the law against these challenges.

It is about time that we are all equal in this country. We are upstanding citizens, who take care of our obligations, add to the community and seek to be equal to everyone else. We are not looking for special rights, just equal rights. I find it ridiculous that another human being can dictate who should have which rights. That is very selfish on their part. I am certainly not interested in changing the multiple benefits that hetrosexual couples share, why should they be so interested in denying me the same rights? I know that a lot of this is done in the name of religion, however I am a very religious person and the God I pray to is not a selfish one, nor does he want any of his children to be denied basic rights as human beings.
