I served Active Army. The discrimination is absurd. I can qualify with a rifle as well as the “straight” soldier serving next to me. The repeal of DADT is one step, yes, but just because a gay soldier can say that they are gay doesn’t give his or her family anything if they die for their country. I believe they can have those rights without DOMA being repealed although I still feel they should do away with anything that takes away from any American’s rights, not just homosexuals.

I am active duty and I think it’s ridiculous that we are still discriminating against gays in the military. I think Rep Hunter is disgusting…so fed up with DADT and not allowing qualified, smart people serve when we need them!

Actually John, I do believe there *were* polls done among the troops in regards to desegregating, and the opposition to Truman’s policy was running in above 90% if I remember correctly.

All this sound to me like they don’t think their armed services can follow orders. Did they do polls and ask other soldiers before racially integrating the service? Or integrating women? Nah- morons.

Nonsense. Just another of the repub road blocks contrived to disrupt and delay Obama’s progress. The repubs block, argue, delay, etc., in order to make govt seem unmanageable while any dem is in the White House. Bush’s admin all but demanded deference during his reign, but the repubs will not extend the similar courtesy to Obama.
