Signature play explores black gay experience

Author, scholar and performer E. Patrick Johnson stars in the one-man show, “Sweet Tea: Black Gay Men of the South” opening Tuesday at Signature Theatre (4200 Campbell Ave.) in Arlington.

Based on Johnson’s book, the show gives an oral history inspired by his personal journey, exploring the perceptions, angst, triumphs and vulnerabilities of a minority within a minority.

Tickets are $40 and can be purchased online at signature-theatre.org. The show runs through Oct. 9.
