That really says it all, doesn’t it? It is a matter of indisputable public record. Delano Hunter opposed marriage equality just over 16 months ago. Also in that recent campaign, without protest or apology– before or after the fact– Delano Hunter tacitly accepted the support of NOM and their virulent anti-gay, direct mail campaign to Ward 5 residents.

So why is Hunter trying to deny, soft-soap and/or dodge those facts now? Why is Hunter continuing to pander to the same Marriage Equality opponents in Ward 5 now? In a recent posting Ward 5′s Kathryn Pearson-West, a sometime Delano Hunter booster, apparently doesn’t believe Hunter’s taking money and/or virulent anti-gay support from NOM was a bad thing.

THE real issue questions Ward 5 and LGBT residents citywide are asking of Delano Hunter are as basic as they come.

Given Delano Hunter’s recent anti-gay stances and demonizing, anti-gay support from NOM, can DC’s LGBT residents trust him to be one of the 15 highest elected officials in DC? Is Delano Hunter more likely to be a FRIEND or FOE of LGBT civil rights interests?

Unlike Vincent Orange and Kenyan McDuffie, Hunter apparently can not point to any personal or professional effort in his history on behalf of LGBT civil rights at all.

Hunter’s stealth candidacy is not about successfully fooling LGBT voters in Ward 5, as much as it is about fooling our straight friends and neighbors in Ward 5– many of whom were appalled at the anti-gay mailings of NOM on Hunter’s behalf.

Respectfully differing from Peter and Barrie, Ward 5 voters, and our allies across the city need to set a significantly higher bar in support LGBT issues and civil rights. And those candidates who have fallen so far short of that mark– and so very recently– should be quickly rejected by voters.
