Last year he was appointed to a Vatican Post and will be leaving as soon as a replacement is named. Of course this makes little difference in the practical effect of the Catholic Church’s continued homophobic embracing of bigotry and discrimitation in its howling protest against all Marylanders being treated equally before the law. The shameless interjection of race into the argument by the archbishop is yet another example of the proposterous links to which the church’s hierarchy will go to to advance its unconvincing position. As an increasing number of their own flock finds the church’s teaching on sexual matters incredible, and sometimes hypocritical, the tact now seems to be to enlist law and government to enforce what the bishops are unable to achieve through their own preaching and example. What a bankrupt approach for a religious institution!
