Last week DCTC's Jason Terry and MPD Chiefs Lanier and Groomes all testified before CM Mendelson's Judiciary Committee hearing.

There were some unhelpful and inaccurate testy barbs between Terry and the Chiefs. But one of the more important issues raised by Terry was re. MPD's reporting of transgender-related homicides, investigations and their closure stats. As recently as a few weeks ago, apparently MPD-SLD/ GLLU was not able to be responsive to Terry's/DCTC's request for MPD's records on trans-related homicides. This is unacceptable. Chiefs Lanier and Groomes should provide that trans-related homicide information to SLD's Captain Delgado or GLLU's Sgt. Mejia so they can be responsive to interested organizations like DCTC, GLAA, our city's LGBT press people, etc.

Also, another important issue raised by Jason Terry...
What's up with MPD's *Fair and Inclusive Policing Task Force* (formerly, the "Bias Policing Task Force")? Exactly who are the members of this task force? What can SLD/GLLU tell us about it? What is its mission? And what has it accomplished?

DC's trans community and MPD need to stop talking past one another and develop a close working relationship, so that the kind of response we saw in last month's trans bus-stop murder becomes the norm, rather than an exception to trans-related violent crimes.
