These inbred hillbillies must have thought no one would even lift a finger to prosecute them. They were right. The local authorities should be on the indictment as well. Obviously the victim went to the police to initiate an investigation in that backwoods town. So why did it take the FBI to catch these trailer trash? With virtually daily hate crimes taking place you wonder why this is the first to be prosecuted under the Matthew Sheppard Hate Crimes Act. LGBT people are still considered non-human by the vast majority of heteros. What a joke that is. Such scum the hetero population is and they think they're superior to anything much less the gay/lesbian community. I just hope this trend continues and all hate crimes are prosecuted by the feds.

This is a good thing, and sends an incredibly important message to those parts of the country where anti-LGBT hate crimes aren't even on local law enforcement's radar screen. But what is USDOJ's excuse for not rigorously enforcing and prosecuting DC's hate crimes law?

Enforcing DC's hate crimes law is usually DOJ's responsibility, too. Anti-LGBT hate crimes in DC have long been relegated to USAO-DC's back burner, if kept on the stove top at all (since Janet Reno and the Clinton Administration left town).

USDOJ needs to put the word out on DC's streets that anti-LGBT hate crimes won't be tolerated in the nation's capital, as well. President Obama and A.G. Holder should get USAO-DC the additional lawyers and staff it apparently needs to do that.
