This has got to be the most poorly planned bit of global gay nonsense in years, and no matter how the naive and out-of-touch organizer Joe Knudson tries to spin his failure as a success, the actions were a bust. The few times I checked out Knudson's lame promotional materials, I never saw anything about simply joining IDAHO on May 17, International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia, instead of trying to reinvent the wheel. The most funny thing about Knudson's spin is his contention that actions happened in the UK, and out respect for the Queen, the organizers chose to keep their work out of the media. I doubt the Queen would have minded in the least if the queens took part in political actions on her birthday.

Invites went out months (almost a year ago) to the local and national LGBT organizations and it was their choice to or not to participate in the event. I believe much of it stems from the new grassroots movement and the LGBT trying to gain and take control back of their destination after only being fed little spoonfuls of rights in all these decades as a result of the work of the big name organizations and it will take time to do this rebuilding after relying on those others for so long, Overall, the day Worldwide was a huge success and the day marked the beginning of a new era in the journey for achieving rights for the LGBTQIA worldwide. THANKS TO ALL OF YOU WHO HELPED TO MAKE THIS DAY A HUGE SUCCESS...

Obviously not that well promoted. I read a dozen different blogs and LGBT news sites daily, and I never heard a thing about this. It hasn't been mentioned at the last two organizing meetings I've attended for our local Gay Pride association either. As this was the first, I might have expected some foibles in promotion and such - but I'd also expect the organizer(s) to have a little more on the ball. Facebook isn't as ubiquitous as some seem to think, and many - including myself - have gotten away from it because of its privacy violations and Zuckerberg's flawed management. Next time, I'd suggest getting involved with local, national, and international activist organizations and a little "star-power" goes a long way, too.

Preliminary attendance numbers and statement of thanks to all participants:

After going through tons of emails, facebook messages, footage from the day, right now the preliminary unconfirmed numbers worldwide looks like we are talking about anywhere from 6-8,000 worldwide participants...we had a few pride events on this day in conjunction with this worldwide effort, private participation in many countries where atrocities are common within the communities and for safety and privacy issues their events were not publicized, many private events going on in Great Britain that were not in the media out of respect for the Queens Birthday on April 21, so there are many factors that entered into these estimates. With these items in mind and the more than 20 active locations in the event out of more than 30 registered and numerous unregistered locations participating in one way or another, spotters, lead organizer comments and many other factors allowed us today, after reviewing hours of information, footage, etc. to arrive at these numbers.

"What has been done and what each of you did today will change the world as we know it. Societies and governments worldwide will now know that we DEMAND our BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS and we will not let anything stand in our way. This education and enlightenment will allow every member of every society, as well as all governments worldwide to be aware of the atrocities occurring in various parts of the world, along with the lack of existence and application worldwide of the laws necessary to assure that every individual is guaranteed those same rights regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity as those enjoyed by all other segments of societies throughout the world. THIS IGNORANCE MUST AND WILL STOP AND IS A REQUIRED STEP ON OUR JOURNEY TO FULL EQUALITY...

EQUALITY will be much closer because of EACH OF YOU and all of your efforts to make this day, April 21, 2012 a success and a day to go down in the history books as the day thousands of people united together in 32 different countries and states throughout the world, along with individuals from many unofficial site locations too numerous to mention, to make their voices heard. Our work is just now beginning and we will build on this momentum with a documentary on this special day that is being planned and forthcoming prior to the elections in America in November.

I am truly blessed to know each of you and my own life is forever changed because of each of you. I love all of you and care very much and please know that I will always be here for anything any of you may need.

With tears of joy in my eyes...Joe Knudson!"
