San Diego names street after Harvey Milk

By on May 10, 2012

SAN DIEGO — Believed to be a first in American history, the San Diego City Council voted unanimously to rename Blaine Avenue in the historically gay neighborhood of Hillcrest after the gay civil rights pioneer, Harvey Milk, who was gunned down in 1978 while serving as San Francisco city supervisor.

Gay council member Todd Gloria — who represents the neighborhood where the street will be renamed — introduced the measure with bipartisan support.

Great news for the LGBT community. Harvey Milk won’t be forgotten in San Diego at least.
