I think we need to be careful where we cast aspersions and when some of our Councilmembers say things just to grab a headline they tend to make things worse not better. It often comes back to haunt them. We have gone through much worse in the District and have not only survived but thrived. As have so many other governments around the nation. They are thinking of opening a special jail just for past Illinois governors. We have changed Council Chairs twice mid-term in the past and we have survived Marion Barry and the Control Board.

As we temper what we say but at the same time hope that the US Attorney will do his work swiftly let us remember that the District of Columbia is doing great. Our finances are the envy of most cities and states and in nearly every area we are making progress from our schools to the environment. There is about $15 billion dollars in the economic development pipeline and we are starting to put people back to work. We are the number one place in the nation for college graduates to move too and we are expanding bike lanes and by all data available services are improving.

CM (and attorney) David Catania has taken the point on so many issues of importance to District residents, it’s really not surprising to see him out front again. It is also good to see Council’s newest member, Ward 5′s Kenyan McDuffie (also a lawyer) with a similar focus…
