It is inaccurate to talk about “each conference since their start in Amsterdam 20 years ago” – the first International AIDS Conference wasn’t the Amsterdam event in 1992, but actually began in Atlanta in 1985, followed by Paris 1986, Washington 1987, Stockholm 1988, Montreal 1989, San Francisco 1990, and Florence 1991.
