SAN FRANCISCO — A group of wealthy and powerful lesbian Americans have announced the creation of a new political action committee that promises to back candidates of any gender, political party or sexual orientation that champion LGBT equality and women’s reproductive rights.
According to the Washington Post, the group includes actress Jane Lynch, tennis legend Billie Jean King, lesbian Chicago Cubs co-owner Laura Ricketts, and political powerhouses Urvashi Vaid and Sarah Schmidt, and they plan to use their collective clout to influence the candidates to take on pro-choice and pro-LGBT stances.
“Frankly, we created LPAC because we were shocked by this past year,” LPAC Chair and Treasurer Schmidt said in a statement. “Lesbians could no longer stand by and witness continued attacks on reproductive freedoms, marriage equality and be immersed in a political sphere where women are not given a meaningful voice in politics.”
