Although now out-of-print and increasingly undiscussed, the tragicomic essays in David Feinberg's book "Queer and Loathing: Rants and Raves of a Raging AIDS Clone" are astonishing, and surely one of the most significant documents to come out of the epidemic. And while I risk the charge of self-promotion, the anthology I edited with David Groff, "Persistent Voices: Poetry by Writers Lost to AIDS," has great work by 45 poets who died from AIDS or AIDS-related complications (including work by Tory Dent, Tim Dlugos, Paul Monette, and Essex Hemphill, mentioned above in the poetry category).
