Comments on: Who signed the Md. anti-gay marriage petition?

I did not sign this petition. However, that being said I, like many other people, have no problem with gay men and women be joined but to call it a marriage flies in the face on the holy sacrament of the church which is the origin of the word "marriage". I also do not believe that the government should be involved in marriage at all since marriage is religious sacrament. Judges should perform civil unions regardless of whether the couple is a gay couple or a man and women and those unions should be recognized by everyone including the government. This would ensure that gay couple enjoy the same privileges as heterosexual couples. Marriage was created and defined by the church and it is not within the government's purview to define the meaning of marriage because of the required separation between church and state. It's up to the church as to whether they accept the union because the government should hold no power over the church, again the separation between church and state and freedom of religion. If this becomes the path I think that many people that now oppose gay marriage will change their minds and hearts. It is just using the word marriage that triggers disagreements among most conservatives. Get rid of that word and resistance will reduce dramatically. Just putting it out there, right, wrong, it does not matter because it is what it is. By the way, I would not be intimidated if my name was on this list. I would just be angry and it would make me want to ensure you never received what you are fighting for, simply on the principle of the thing. Big mistake publishing this list on your part.

Thanks for sharing Richard, I too want to search my neighborhood, and identify all the homophobes and have a “love-in” in front of their house, kissing my boyfriend in front of their kids to show them anal sex between to adult men is ok! Shame on everyone for not allowing our kind of love

Why would you post this? Everyone has the right to voice their opinions and vote on civil and political issues without having their privacy violated. This is a blatant disregard for human rights. If not bigotry, what is it? “Oh, I disagree with free negros! I’m not racist though, just expressing my right to free speech!” PEOPLE GET HURT BY THIS KIND OF RAMPANT HATE. This isn’t a benign issue, people’s ways of life are at stake here. Voting against Question 6 WILL have a detrimental effect on hundreds of thousands of Marylanders! How can you be so blind to that fact? How would you feel if I told you I voted to take away your right to marry the one you love? I bet you would feel hurt, oppressed, distraught, confused, and a whole host of other things. That’s what we in the gay and lesbian community deal with all the time. I can’t understand why anyone would think that my wife and our children can’t be a happy, loving family, but right here are 110,000 people who feel exactly that, not because we have some history of being horrid mothers, or running from lover to lover, cheating, philandering, getting in fights, having our neighbors call the cops, but because we’re both FEMALE!? REALLY!? That’s NOT bigotry? How? Maybe you’d rather call it what it is: Blind, stupid, unadulterated hatred of equality.

Obviously you believe us incapable of having a successful family life. You don’t treat your gay friends the same as your straight friends. You deny them the right to marry the ones they love. I hope you come to your senses about this. You claim to have gay friends, but what you do is no better than if you had a black friend and still advocated slavery, or a woman friend and advocate for her to not be allowed to vote. Your hypocrisy has blinded you. Wake up and see what you are, change it for the better, or drop the charade and admit you think us inferior.
