John Aravosis ought to have consulted the gay Ugandan activists before proposing action. Frank Mugisha of SMUG responded to my inquiry by saying that we should not call for cuts to aid, but should protest in other ways. The problem is that other Ugandans respond to threats of aid cuts with anti-gay reprisals. Of course blaming the victim is insane, but this is what Mugisha and other gay Ugandans are up against. Let's respect the people in the country whom we are trying to help rather than just venting from a safe distance.

Change the word "Homosexuality" in their Bill, to the words "Christian Evangelism" and it would not be Fascism against a group... it would and should be called "A Strong Defense". Or, how about calling it "Oppress the Oppressors"?! Or, how about, "A Dose of Reality for Centuries of Religious Oppression"? Either way, ANY passive response would be a catastrophe for Humanity, for Humane-ism and for Humanism. Viva Los Homo-Sapiens :D

The way to have an impact is targeted sanctions directly against the politicians promoting and voting for this fascist piece of legislation, it is only when it effects them directly through travel bans, not being invited to conferences, closing of bank accounts etc that they will react. This really is a hideous piece of legislation especially the coercion to denounce suspected gays. Already recently without this bill three 'pastors' were found guilty of bribing a youth to say he was raped by a rival pastor. If passed this bill will be a blackmailers charter, nobody gay or straight will be free from accusation and harassment. If they can get away with this how difficult will it be to use this bill as a template, just change the word Homosexual for ANY religious, ethnic, tribal, linguistic group and you have the perfect tool for opression, this is how Fascists work.

"ongoing misuse of foreign aid". Well, it figures that these idiots would not only continue to receive U.S. federal funding but receive it in spite of the fact that they waste it. I have a better idea, cut all funding to Uganda immediately and demand re-payment of any previous funds.

I imagine their too busy sticking their noses into the affairs of their gay/lesbian countrymen to worry about U.S. funding. How about we simply ban this jungle country from receiving anything at all..
