Thank you so much for your kind words, Yitzchak! We may be few & far between overall, but i know more than a few white queers who are not only as focused on racial and class justice as i am but who are actually moreso. If you’re in the DC area, check out HIPS and the DC Trans Coalition. You’ll find lots more white folks (and people of color, as well) there who agree with both of us on these things. (Also, it’s nice to know that someone aside from my family and Facebook friends actually read my Queery column!)

I always find these profiles interesting, but wow, I really liked this one! I mean, seriously, a white, queer person who “gets” this stuff about racial and economic justice when others–including too many in the queer/gay/whatever they wish to call themselves community–just don’t see how deep and pervasive and destructive this stuff is in our society? And who thinks that we shouldn’t run from all of the various expressions of our queerness in order to make ourselves more palatable to the non-queer world? And who isn’t ashamed to say that sex workers deserve rights? Wonderful! I mean, I know that there are others out there, but this Black, gay, atheist Jewish man of Southern heritage wishes that we had many, many more like Shannon!
