I have to agree that there is a big difference between what you can technically get away with under the bylaws and what is the good and right and respectful thing to do. This was a dirty move, and it seems clear it was orchestrated by Jeffrey Richardson to get certain people on the State Committee, and not much at all about what is best for Stein Democrats. It is disrespectful of the group and it's mission and the people who have been part of the Stein for these many years. The new officers will always have a cloud surrounding them if they don't address the situation now. Stein is a lot more than a way to get your political operatives on the State Committee, it has a history, and a mission, and a purpose.

Bruce, while you were hanging out with Claire Lucas drumming real estate business in 1999, some of us were watching the Supreme Court case of Joe Andrews vs. Lyndon LaRouche. For the first time in the history of the United States, SCOTUS ruled on the definition of political parties et al. They ruled that the Libertarian Party, like all other political groups, was a private, incorporated, non profit association with unique financial reporting obligations that had complete control of its membership. Thats why LaRouche's enrollment in the Democratic Party was invalidated. You're confusing Gertrude Stein and every other political group with General Election non partisan voter rights.

The Democratic Party is all about open, vigorous discussion of issues as well as open and free elections. This Stein Club election was obviously far, far from that.

The defenders of the 'new guard' winners are reduced to arguing legal-eagle defenses which appear self-serving and not credible on their face. "We-play-dirty-politics-better-than-you" is distasteful. They're acting as if this dispute were as important to our city's LGBT population as the Bush v. Gore case.

Who do they think they're kidding with such pretentiousness? Ethics matter more. Democratic Party values matter more.

This election process was surreptitious and dirty -- and most average voters can see that. My guess is that DC LGBT voters of all stripes are shaking their heads in disgust at this ongoing dirty tricks spectacle.

Life is all about do-overs when election fraud has even the appearance of being a factor. With 200 members, this barely qualifies as a high school ballot-stuffing bust by teachers requiring a new election. So there is really no credible excuse for not rescheduling a free, open and fairly-perceived election.

Re-do this election please, so that the winners in a free and fair election process-- whoever they may be-- will retain some shred of honor and respectability for the Gertrude Stein DEMOCRATIC Club.

We don't want future candidates running way from a Stein Club endorsement for fear of having their integrity besmirched by it.

And applause for Ms. Williams for setting an honorable example.
