I don't understand why every news site has to have a "Year in Review" or a "Top Ten Whatsits" article at the end of every calendar year and at no other time. Is this just an easy exercise for the writers so they can get to the party on time? Is there something about journalism I don't know? Newly arrived time travelers and space aliens need this information to get up to date, but how much of your readership do they represent? (Is there something you're not telling us?) The rest of us remember don't need the article because it just happened, we remember it, we lived through it, you already covered it, and you already analyzed it in your opinion pieces. Mind you, I'm not complaining, I'm just really curious.
