You mean like most are quick to forget that Bill passed DOMA and Hillary scolded Democratic fundraisers for focusing on distractions like same-sex marriage? She went on the record as recent as 2003 as saying that she and "most Americans" didn't support marriage equality. People evolve and change... and we could use Hagel's brain and DOD.

I agree with the writer. I cannot believe that HRC and other civil rights groups are quick to forget Chuck Hagel's words from 1998. A Washington Blade article from January 30, 1998 reported that "religious right groups" like FRC were spearheading the blocking of James Hormel's confirmation. The two issues were 1) James Hormel funding of a doc called "It’s Elementary" and 2) Hormel's pledged to match donations of between $100 and $1,000 to the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network.

Chuck Hagel may have not led the charge against Hormel but Hagel played a part in the vast religious right smear campaign against him. Chuck Hagel stood on the wrong side of history in 1998 and joined in the gay bashing led by FRC (now labeled a hate group). What kind of leadership does that show?

Here is the Wash Blade article. Click on Hormel.
