Many LGBTs all across our city remain grateful for Jim Graham's tireless work on behalf of LGBT public health, LGBT civil rights and LGBT public safety.

Only people feeble in mind and spirit fail to learn from their mistaken choices. Here's wishing the best to the young man who is Jim Graham, and to all the public service he has yet to give.

Just to be clear, I did not say that the ethics charges were unimportant. Indeed, I was critical of Mr. Graham for comments in the past week that appeared to equate ethics with non-criminality. Ethical standards must be about more than that. But when I criticize a public official, I also give credit where due; and Jim has a strong record on LGBT issues. And unlike Marion Barry (his sole defender at Monday's hearing), he has presided over a thriving ward. BTW, I entirely agree with Dvid Catania that Barry's due process complaint is absurd. Also, it's hard to believe that Graham would want yet another investigation. It is very much in his interest at this point to take his lumps and move on. There appears little prospect at this point of his not being re-elected next year. One might like to see more effective challengers for elected offices in DC, but they are few and far between.
