ROCHESTER, N.Y. — LGBT residents in the Rochester, N.Y., area have a new resource as HCR Home Care working with the Gay Alliance of the Genesee Valley, has trained a 10-person team in working to meet the needs of LGBT residents in their 60s and 70s who are reluctant to come out to their doctors, Democrat and Chronicle, a Gannett news outlet in the region, reported last weekend.

The agency has other cultural competency teams for Spanish speakers, Somali and Russian residents and more, the article said.

“This was designed to encourage people who haven’t sought care or who are delaying care,” said Louise Woerner, HCR founder and executive board chair, in the article. “In our organization, we work very hard to meet the individual where they are so we can achieve the best results.”
