Baltimore Black Pride, Inc. (BBP) and the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Community Center of Baltimore and Central Maryland (GLCCB) announced on July 30 a formal partnership. Under the collaboration, the organizations will work together to provide LGBT outreach and services, as well as develop and executing both groups’ respective festival events, including the upcoming 2013 Baltimore Black Pride event, to be held October 7-13.
“Today’s announcement marks another progressive step toward LGBTQ equality, while embracing and celebrating our diversity,” said Carlton R. Smith, Baltimore Black Pride president and CEO. “This partnership also begins a new era for Baltimore’s LGBT young people, and will allow them to actively engage in creative and innovative ways to build our community and create change in the world in the name of solidarity, equality, and hope.”
As part of the partnership, the GLCCB and BBP, under their separate leadership, will collaborate to plan and execute their respective pride festivities by securing sponsorship, booking talent and performers, raising funds, promoting events and organizing forums.
In the lead-up to this year’s Black Pride festivities, representatives from both organizations will work together to produce a kick-off event in late September, as well as the Official Baltimore Black Pride Guide.
