Deborah Rudacille will discuss her book “The Riddle of Gender” at the Aug. 27 meeting of PFLAG Baltimore. Rudacille was inspired by a close friend who transitioned from female to male to learn more.
Coming at the subject of transsexualism from several angles–historical, sociological, psychological, medical–Rudacille discovered that gender variance is anything but new, that changing one’s gender has been met with both acceptance and hostility through the years and that gender identity, like sexual orientation, appears to be inborn, not learned. Her research included interviews with prominent members of the transgender community.
The meeting takes place from 7-9 p.m. at the Towson Unitarian Universalist Church, 1710 Dulaney Valley Rd., Lutherville, Md. For more information, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
