Gay activist and D.C. government official Jeffrey Richardson on Dec. 7 won election as president of the Ward 6 Democratic Committee, defeating opponent DeLeon Ware by a “very close” margin, according to Democratic State Committee official Bill O’Field.
O’Field said he couldn’t immediately obtain the final vote count but said it would become available soon.
Richardson is the former director of the city’s Office of GLBT Affairs under Mayor Vincent Gray and currently serves as director of the D.C. Office of Volunteerism. He’s also the former president of the Gertrude Stein Democratic Club, the city’s largest LGBT political organization.
The Stein Club’s president-elect, Angela Peoples, said she is pleased that Richardson won his race to lead the Ward 6 Democrats and the Stein Club looks forward to working with him in the coming year.
Richardson won an earlier election as president of the Ward 6 Democrats held in October, but the State Committee ruled that the election was invalid because a misleading public notice about the time period for the voting prevented registered voters from arriving in time to vote.
