Several gay-themed shows get Emmy nods

LGBT themes pop up in at least some capacity on just about every current TV show it seems. Several, such as “Mad Men,” “House of Cards,” “Modern Family” and “Orange is the New Black” are among this year’s Emmy nominees.

Highlights of this year’s crop, announced today, are “Modern Family” and “Orange” for comedy series, straight actor Mark Ruffalo who played gay in HBO’s “The Normal Heart,” out actress Jane Lynch for hosting “Hollywood Game Night,” “Normal Heart” for movie, Nathan Lane for his guest spot on “Modern Family” and Laverne Cox for her breakout role on “Orange.”
