Julie Chu, a former U.S. women’s hockey captain, and Caroline Ouellette, captain of Team Canada at the 2014 Winter Games, announced the birth of their baby girl, Liv.
Chu and Ouellette faced off against each other for the first time at the 2002 Olympics. They would go on to battle it out in 2010 and 2014. Chu was captain of the U.S. women’s team from 2011-2013.
The couple both played on the Canadian Women’s Hockey League’s Montreal Canadiennes last season where the team won the Clarkson Cup. Ouellette was pregnant with their child at the time.
Chu and Ouellette shared the news on their Instagrams with pictures of themselves and their new baby.
“On November 5th, at 10:18pm, after 40 weeks and 2 days, Julie and I welcomed to the world our beautiful daughter Liv,” Ouellette captioned a photo of the new addition to the family. “I feel truly blessed to experience this incredible adventure with my love and best friend Julie. I did not realise it was possible to love this much until I met this little buddle of joy!”
Chu captioned her own post, “We have already been blessed with so many things in our life: Amazing friends and family, Love, Representing our countries, and doing things we are passionate about each day. We couldn’t have felt luckier, until we were blessed with the most incredible Gift so far on Sunday, November 5.”
