Dlugacz, Hester and DeGeneres honored at annual Mautner Project Gala
The Mautner Project, an LBT women’s health organization, held its annual gala on Saturday, March 17 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, D.C.
The “Over the Rainbow” gala drew hundreds of supporters for a night of awards, auctions, food, entertainment and dancing. Honorees included Olivia Travel’s Judy Dlugacz, the a cappella group Sweet Honey in the Rock, volunteer Ed Wood and LGBT rights campaigner Betty DeGeneres. Maggie FitzPatrick of Cigna presented the “GO YOU Award” to Mautner founder Susan Hester and a large grant to the Mautner Project from the Cigna Foundation. Entertainment was provided by Viki Dee and DJ jame’ foks.

A “No Kings” demonstration was held in Anacostia on Saturday to protest the Trump administration. Speakers at the rally included LGBTQ activist, Rayceen Pendarvis. Following the rally, demonstrators marched across the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge.

The annual fantasy, comics and science fiction convention Awesome Con was held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center on March 13-15. Featured guests included openly gay actor, author and activist, George Takei. The convention included LGBTQ panels and a “Pride Alley” with LGBTQ-specific booths in the exhibit hall.
